Chinese Mainland UN Envoy Stresses Durable Gaza Ceasefire

Yesterday, on December 16, 2025, Fu Cong, the Chinese mainland's permanent representative to the United Nations, told the UN Security Council there can be no peace in Gaza without a solid ceasefire. He stressed that a "comprehensive and durable ceasefire" must go beyond low-intensity clashes to fully halt all hostilities. ⚖️🕊️

Over the past two months, Fu noted, repeated violations have cost hundreds of civilian lives. A true ceasefire shouldn't just dial down the violence—it should end it. Any reckless act could shatter the fragile calm, he warned. To build lasting peace, he urged all parties, especially Israel, to honor their commitments under the current agreement and for mediators to hold everyone accountable.

Fu Cong also spotlighted the urgent need for humanitarian relief. China calls on Israel to open all Gaza border crossings, lift restrictions on aid, and back UN agencies in delivering lifesaving supplies. On the West Bank, he urged an immediate halt to settlement expansion, settler violence, and measures undermining the Palestinian National Authority, including the return of collected taxes and lifting economic restrictions.

He reaffirmed that only the "two-state solution" can bring a just end to the conflict. "Palestinians governing Palestine" must be the guiding principle for Gaza's future, and any demographic or territorial engineering should be rejected. The international community, he said, must intensify efforts to advance this solution and support Palestine's bid for full United Nations membership.

Fu Cong concluded by reaffirming the Chinese mainland's support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights. He pledged that China will keep working with global partners to secure a comprehensive ceasefire, ease the humanitarian crisis, and push for a fair, lasting settlement. 🌍🤝
