Trump meets Zelenskyy: No trilateral summit, Tomahawks on hold

Last Friday at the White House, President Trump welcomed Ukrainian President Zelenskyy for what he described as “very interesting and cordial” talks 🤝. The goal? Press for a quick peace deal and convince both sides to halt the conflict where it stands.

Trump took to Truth Social to urge Russia and Ukraine to “stop where they are” and negotiate a treaty. “It is time to stop the killing, and make a DEAL!” he wrote. He added that defining borders by war was too costly—and that history could decide on any claims.

When asked about a possible U.S.-Russia-Ukraine summit, Trump ruled it out for now. Instead, he’s planning a “double meeting” with Russian President Putin in Hungary—without Kyiv at the table—calling it a step to ease “a lot of bad blood” between the two capitals.

On long-range weapons, Trump downplayed deliveries of U.S.-made Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kyiv, warning they could spark a “big escalation”. He said the U.S. needs those missiles too and hopes the war will end before sending more arms.

President Zelenskyy played it realistic, noting both leaders touched on long-range support but agreed not to discuss details publicly to avoid escalating tensions. This was Zelenskyy’s third meeting at the White House during Trump’s term and came just a day after Trump’s phone call with Putin.

The next stop? Hungary, where Trump plans to meet Putin in a bid to lock in peace terms. While talks in Alaska last August stalled, both sides say a resolution is overdue—and the world is watching if “stop where you are” can turn into a lasting ceasefire 🕊️.
