😲 Japan’s exports to the U.S. dipped again in August, marking the fifth straight month of decline, according to data released by the Finance Ministry.
In August, exports to the U.S. totaled 1.3855 trillion yen (around $9.5 billion), down 13.8% year-on-year. Auto shipments took the biggest hit, plunging 28.4% amid ongoing tariff policies.
✈️ On the flip side, imports from the U.S. jumped 11.6% to 1.0615 trillion yen (about $7.2 billion) – the first rise in seven months, thanks to beefed-up aircraft orders.
📉 Overall, Japan’s total exports were 8.4252 trillion yen ($57 billion), edging down just 0.1% from last year, pushing the trade balance into a 242.5 billion yen (nearly $1.65 billion) deficit – the second month in the red.
Economists say U.S. tariff policies on auto parts are the main drag, but rising aircraft imports offer a silver lining. With trade ties under the spotlight, all eyes will be on September’s data to see if the trend reverses. 🌍
