China has sent a friendly nudge to the European Union, asking them to keep cool over new tariffs on electric vehicles (EVs). 
So, here's the deal: The EU is thinking about slapping temporary tariffs of up to 38.1% on battery electric vehicles (BEVs) imported from China starting July 4. Major European car companies like Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis aren't exactly thrilled about this plan. 
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian spoke up on Thursday, urging the EU to reconsider. He emphasized that turning economic issues into political ones isn't the way to go and could harm cooperation and mutual trust between China and the EU. 
Lin called the EU's investigation \"a typical act of protectionism,\" pointing out that ignoring facts and World Trade Organization rules benefits no one. 
China says it'll take necessary steps to protect its BEV companies' rights and interests. Looks like this EV saga is heating up!
