Gaza Ceasefire Hits 100 Days, Aid Corridors Still Blocked

On Monday, UN humanitarians warned that Gaza’s ceasefire, in place since October 10, has crossed the 100-day milestone but still faces major hurdles in getting life-saving aid to civilians. 🤝

“The ceasefire agreement – which has crossed the 100-day mark – must hold so that more civilian lives can be saved,” said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). “The scale-up of humanitarian work continues to be held back by restrictions and impediments, with recent harsh weather also setting back some of the progress.”

Gaza’s health authorities report 14 people killed and 23 injured in the past 48 hours, bringing the toll since October 10 to 463 dead and 1,269 injured. ⚠️

The World Food Programme, which reaches over one million people in Gaza every month with food parcels, bread bundles and hot meals, called for additional safe corridors from Egypt and Jordan and along the Salah Ad Din road to boost delivery and reduce insecurity.

Meanwhile, WHO, UNICEF and UNRWA launched the second round of a routine immunization catch-up campaign with Gaza’s health authorities. Running until Thursday, Jan 23, it involves 170 teams at nearly 130 health facilities and seven mobile teams in hard-to-reach areas. A third and final round is planned for April to protect children under three. 💉

In the West Bank, OCHA said Israeli forces on Monday placed about 25,000 residents under curfew in Hebron’s H2 area during a large-scale operation. Reports describe heavy military vehicles, snipers on rooftops and the closure of six internal roads.

As a result, four bakeries have suspended operations and two shops—where about 4,000 people regularly obtain essential supplies through UN-issued vouchers—remain closed. Education in more than a dozen schools has been suspended, affecting thousands of students. 🏫

The area has also faced major electricity outages after damage to a local power station over the weekend. With the curfew in place, technicians are working to restore power, while emergency medical evacuations and online schooling for students are being facilitated. Yet families confined to their homes still struggle to access food, medicine and other essentials.
