Nigerian Airstrikes Neutralize 40+ Militants Near Lake Chad

On January 1516, 2026, the Nigerian Air Force launched precise strikes in Borno State’s Musarram and Azir communities near Lake Chad 🌊, killing over 40 militants linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). 🛩️💥

Intelligence showed fighters using canoes and dense vegetation to plan raids on Baga town and the Fish Dam area. It was like a real‐life Call of Duty mission 🎮—but with life‐or‐death stakes. Three bombing runs in Musarram scattered their ranks before they could launch an attack.

Some militants who fled into tree cover were tracked by aerial surveillance and neutralized, effectively dismantling their assembly point. 🌲🔍

A day later in Azir, air support arrived just as militants were retreating from a ground clash. Surveillance spotted them regrouping under trees, and follow‐up strikes ensured no threat remained.

“Post‐strike assessments confirmed no further threats, and feedback from ground troops and residents indicated a significant degradation of terrorist presence,” said Ehimen Ejodame, Nigerian Air Force spokesperson.

Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, Chief of the Air Staff, praised the operations as proof of the power of intelligence‐led air power and ground coordination, reaffirming the military’s push to protect communities around Lake Chad.

This week’s mission is the latest in Nigeria’s 17-year battle against insurgent groups, showing that targeted air campaigns remain a key tool in bringing peace back to the region. ✊🌍
