🚀 Ethiopia is kicking off 2026 with a bold move in aviation: groundbreaking for a brand-new mega airport hub, Bishoftu International Airport (BIA), located 40 km southeast of Addis Ababa. Earlier this Saturday, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced on X that BIA will become the largest aviation infrastructure project in Africa's history, easing pressure on Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, which handles up to 25 million passengers a year and is nearing capacity. ✈️
Set to reshape the continent's travel map, the new hub is designed to:
- Boost capacity beyond the current 25 million annual passengers
- Enhance connectivity across Africa and global routes
- Create thousands of jobs in aviation, tourism and related sectors
- Reinforce Ethiopian Airlines’ role as a leading carrier
This mega project underlines Ethiopia’s ambition to lead Africa’s aviation sector and could open up fresh opportunities for business, tourism and trade across the continent. For travelers and entrepreneurs alike, the sky is literally the limit! 🌍✈️
Stay tuned—Ethiopia’s new aviation era is taking off!
