📢 The United Nations has sounded the alarm about surging violence in Sudan's Kordofan region, where tens of thousands of people are on the move.
Between October 25 and December 30, 2025, about 65,000 civilians were forced to flee their homes across Kordofan, UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric revealed. But the crisis didn't stop there.
As of early January 2026, displacement has spiked again:
- South Kordofan state saw almost 1,000 people displaced from areas like Quoz locality, Kadugli town and Berdab village between December 31, 2025, and January 4, 2026.
- North Kordofan saw another 2,000 uprooted on Monday, January 5, from Um Dam Haj Ahmed locality.
In a tragic escalation, a drone attack on Tuesday, January 6, in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, allegedly killed 13 civilians, including children 💔.
"Once again, the UN reiterates its urgent call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians," Dujarric said. The UN is also pressing for "rapid, safe and sustained humanitarian access" to deliver aid to those in desperate need 🆘.
This unfolding crisis highlights the precarious situation for communities in Kordofan, with families facing insecurity, loss of homes and a fight for survival. As the UN ramps up calls for peace, the world watches, hoping for a swift end to the violence.
