Iran, Cuba and Brazil Slam US Invasion of Venezuela

On Saturday, January 3, 2026, the United States military stunned the region by striking Venezuela, forcibly seizing President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and transferring them to the United States.

In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi dialed up his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, and Brazil's Foreign Minister, Mauro Vieira, on Monday night, January 5. During these chats, Araghchi blasted the US's "military aggression" and warned that such "bullying" violates the UN Charter and international law. 🌐

Rodriguez called the US invasion "illegal" and said it threatens security across the Caribbean and Latin America. He stressed Cuba's readiness to stand against foreign threats and called for stronger coordination among friendly nations.

Vieira also condemned Washington's actions as "clear violations" of the UN Charter. He announced that Brazil will raise the issue at upcoming meetings of the UN Security Council, the Organization of American States, and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.

Together, the three ministers urged developing countries and groups like the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter and the Non-Aligned Movement to unite against unilateral military actions, reinforce international law, and uphold the principles of the UN Charter. 🤝

For months, the United States had maintained a heavy military presence in the Caribbean—much of it off Venezuela's coast—officially to fight drug trafficking. Venezuela says it was all a cover for regime change in Caracas.

As tensions rise, Latin America watches closely: will this call for multilateral solidarity reshape the balance of power and protect the foundations of global law? Stay tuned. 📺
