On Sunday, Jan. 4, Acting President Delcy Rodriguez called for a "balanced and respectful" relationship with the United States, a day after the U.S. carried out strikes and forcibly seized Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
"We consider it a priority to move toward a balanced and respectful relationship between the U.S. and Venezuela," Rodriguez wrote on Telegram. "We extend an invitation to the U.S. government to work together on an agenda for cooperation that is aimed toward shared development."
Speaking directly to President Donald Trump, Rodriguez added: "Our people and our region deserve peace and dialogue, not war. This has always been President Nicolas Maduro's message, and it is a message of all Venezuela right now."
She concluded her appeal with a firm declaration: "Venezuela has the right to peace, to development, to sovereignty and to a future."
This outreach marks a potential shift in Caracas's tone and could pave the way for talks on economic recovery and regional stability. For young Latin American news enthusiasts, it’s a reminder of how quickly diplomatic dynamics can change. 🤝🌎
