Iran Demands US Free Maduro, Labels Detention Unlawful

😲 This Monday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry fired off a strong protest at the United States, demanding the immediate release of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and condemning his detention as a blatant violation of international law.

At a weekly press briefing in Tehran, spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei accused the US military of carrying out an abduction of Maduro and his wife over the weekend. He called it a shameful breach of Venezuela’s sovereignty and urged United Nations members to take action against such unlawful moves. ⚖️

Baghaei stressed that targeting a head of state and their spouse is not something to take pride in, and echoed calls from Venezuela’s people and officials for Maduro’s immediate release.

According to US military statements, special forces struck inside Venezuela on Saturday and flew Maduro to a Manhattan federal court on Monday to face narco-terrorism charges. The dramatic seizure has sent shockwaves through diplomatic circles and deepened the bond between two heavily sanctioned nations. Iran, a close ally of Venezuela, reiterated that its support is rooted in shared principles rather than personalities.

This diplomatic clash comes as Iran faces economic protests that erupted in late December over the sharp drop in the rial. Iranian authorities say they are listening to grievances but have warned against violence. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has threatened a strong response if protesters are harmed, raising the stakes in a geopolitical game of brinkmanship.

Baghaei also accused Israel and the United States of waging psychological warfare through media campaigns and economic pressure to keep Iran on edge. With tensions rising, the world watches closely: will diplomacy prevail, or are we headed for a wider clash? 🌍
