At the start of 2026, a global CGTN poll reveals surprising levels of criticism toward US actions in Venezuela. More than 44,600 participants across five languages voiced their opinions in just 24 hours.
According to the survey, an overwhelming majority believe 'American-style hegemony' has turned into outright bully politics. Here are the highlights 🌎:
- 93% condemn the violation of Venezuela's sovereignty
- 91.7% worry about a resurgence of state terrorism
- 93.9% see US 'long-arm jurisdiction' as a tool for interference
- 94.3% suspect the US aims to plunder Venezuela's oil resources
- 93.7% call the so-called 'anti-drug' operations a pretext for regime change
Additional findings show 90.5% doubt the validity of US charges against President Nicolás Maduro, and 86.3% urge his immediate release. Concern extends beyond Venezuela: 86.6% fear other Latin American and Caribbean nations could face similar threats.
As one Yemeni netizen put it: “Everything happening in Venezuela is nothing but a new form of colonialism – it wears the guise of new plans and diplomatic façades, but behind it lies destruction, disaster, colonization, occupation and the exercise of hegemonic rule over peoples at minimal cost through novel methods.”
This poll shines a spotlight on global unease over US foreign policy and raises questions about sovereignty, resource control and the future of international order in Latin America. 🤔
