Japan Confirms 11th Bird Flu Outbreak in Hokkaido

🚨 On Monday, December 29, 2025, Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries confirmed a highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak at a poultry farm in Yuni Town, Hokkaido Prefecture. This marks the 11th bird flu case this season 🐔🔬.

The farm reported sharp drops in egg production and a spike in chicken deaths, prompting genetic tests that led to the culling of over 6,000 egg-laying hens. All birds will be humanely culled, incinerated, and buried following national guidelines.

To contain the virus, farms within a 3-kilometer radius face a ban on moving chickens and eggs, while those in the 3–10 km zone cannot transport any poultry products outside the area. It’s all about stopping the spread! 🛑

Japan’s avian influenza season runs from autumn to spring. Since the first case was detected in Hokkaido on October 22, 2025, nearly 3.65 million chickens have been culled across these 11 outbreaks. Winter bird flu remains a tough challenge for the country ❄️🐤.

Whether you’re a traveler planning a winter trip or a food industry watcher tracking egg prices, this outbreak shows how connected our plates are to animal health around the world. We’ll keep you posted on any new developments!
