Guinea Heads to Polls: Doumbouya Poised for Victory

🚀 Today, Sunday, December 28, Guineaans across the country woke up early to make history. At 7 a.m. (0700 GMT), polling stations opened in Conakry and beyond, welcoming about 6.7 million registered voters.

Leading the pack is transitional government leader Mamady Doumbouya—a former special forces commander in his early 40s—running as an independent. Against eight other candidates, and with top opposition figures like former president Alpha Condé and Cellou Dalein Diallo in exile or barred from the race, Doumbouya is the clear favorite.

This election marks the end of a four-year transition back to civilian rule after Doumbouya's 2021 coup. Polls will close at 6 p.m. (1800 GMT), and provisional results are expected within 48–72 hours. Will Guinea turn the page into a new era, or will surprises shake the scene? Stay tuned for updates! ✨
