🗳️ Myanmar kicked off the first phase of its 2025 multiparty democratic general elections on Sunday, December 28, 2025. Young voters and seasoned politicians alike flocked to 21,517 polling stations spread across 692 constituencies in this historic moment.
This year’s vote marks the debut of the Mixed-Member Proportional system (MMP), merging First-Past-the-Post and Proportional Representation, alongside the new Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine. Nearly 5,000 candidates from 57 political parties are in the race for seats in the Pyithu Hluttaw (lower house), Amyotha Hluttaw (upper house), and state and regional Hluttaws.
Overseas voters have already cast advance ballots at embassies and consulates, and election observation teams from around the globe have arrived to ensure transparency 🎉.
