On Friday, December 26, 2025, the Syrian army shot down multiple drones launched by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) toward military positions near the Tishreen Dam in eastern Aleppo, state media reported. This move was dubbed a violation of the March 10 agreement meant to de-escalate tensions between Damascus and the SDF. 🛰️
According to the state-run SANA agency, the drones were intercepted before reaching their targets, keeping damage to a minimum. Meanwhile, SDF fighters struck a checkpoint operated by Syria’s Internal Security near the al-Shihan roundabout, injuring one officer.
Mohammad Abdel Ghani, commander of Internal Security in Aleppo province, said that SDF snipers deployed in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods opened fire on security personnel who were regulating civilian movement. He urged residents to avoid conflict zones and warned that any further violations would meet "necessary measures."
The SDF, for its part, claimed its positions near the roundabout came under shelling from factions aligned with the Damascus government and described its response as "limited." 🔥
These incidents mark the latest flare-up in Aleppo, where recent weeks have seen armed confrontations, sniper attacks, and mutual accusations. The March 10 framework for dialogue and de-escalation has struggled to take hold, with Damascus accusing the SDF of breaking its commitments and the SDF blaming government forces for provocation.
As both sides dig in, Aleppo remains on edge. Can the March 10 agreement be revived to stabilize the region, or will clashes keep escalating? 🤔
