Venezuela Condemns US Maritime Blockade as Violation of International Law

🌊 This week, Venezuela reignited the debate over freedom of navigation after U.S. President Donald Trump’s surprise order to impose a maritime blockade.

On Wednesday, Dec 17, 2025, the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) called the move a “grave, reckless violation of free trade and freedom of navigation,” accusing Washington of trying to seize Venezuela’s energy resources.

Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López told reporters that the blockade exposed “desperation” and was “delusional,” stressing that the Caribbean Sea belongs to all nations under international law.

In Caracas, thousands of residents rallied in support of national sovereignty. Mayor Carmen Melendez urged unity, saying ✊ “All communes must speak out against these violent threats by those who see themselves as supremacist rulers.”

Across the region, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum urged the United Nations to seek peaceful solutions and prevent escalation into war.

With tensions rising, experts warn the blockade could destabilize Latin America and shake up global energy security. What’s next? 🌍 Stay tuned as we follow this evolving story.
