Russian Forces Push into Myrnohrad as Ukraine Holds Lines

In a briefing this Tuesday, Russia’s top general, Valery Gerasimov, said Russian forces are advancing along the entire front line in Ukraine and have already seized over 30% of Myrnohrad’s buildings. The town, which had nearly 46,000 residents before the war, lies east of Pokrovsk in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Despite Russian claims, Ukraine denies that Pokrovsk has fallen and says its troops still control parts of the city and are mounting counterattacks around Myrnohrad. “We’re holding our defensive lines and making Russia pay dearly for every yard,” a Ukrainian commander told reporters.

Meanwhile, U.S.-brokered peace efforts are heating up as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy aims to persuade the Trump administration to revise a 28-point proposal unveiled earlier this year. In an online press conference on Monday, Zelenskyy insisted that Kyiv has “no legal or moral right” to cede territory to Russia under Ukrainian law, the constitution, or international law.

Kyiv plans to send its revised peace plan to Washington later today, after Zelenskyy’s talks in London with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Officials say the updated document trims the original proposal from 28 to 20 points, removing what Kyiv called “obvious anti-Ukrainian” clauses.

“Do we envision ceding territories? Absolutely not,” Zelenskyy said on Monday. The urgency is growing as the White House presses Kyiv for a swift agreement. U.S. President Donald Trump, meanwhile, has expressed frustration, accusing the Ukrainian leader of not fully reviewing the draft.

On the Kremlin side, envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met President Vladimir Putin last week, but Russia rejected parts of the U.S. framework. Putin’s senior adviser Yuri Ushakov suggested Russia’s recent battlefield gains have strengthened Moscow’s negotiating position, making compromise harder.

As the battle for Myrnohrad intensifies, both sides are digging in for a protracted fight. For young news fans and globe-trotters, the stakes in eastern Ukraine—and the push for peace—remain a story to watch closely. Stay tuned for updates! 🌍✨
