Arab League Condemns Deadly Drone Strike in Sudan’s South Kordofan

On Sunday, December 7, the Arab League slammed a drone strike that hit Kalogi city in Sudan’s South Kordofan state on Thursday, December 4. The blast killed at least 114 civilians—including 63 children 😢—and injured about 71 others. The pan-Arab body called it a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and a threat to Sudan’s unity.

In a statement from Cairo, the league demanded independent investigations and accountability for what it described as war crimes. This call for justice comes as tensions rise in a conflict that shows no signs of letting up.

South Kordofan Governor Mohamed Ibrahim Abdel Karim said on Sunday that the death toll has climbed to 114, with about 71 people injured—and warned the numbers could grow further as rescue teams comb through the rubble.

Sudanese authorities accuse the opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) of teaming up with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to carry out the attack on a civilian area. So far, neither group has commented.

Fighting between Sudan’s army and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions—creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. UN agencies recently warned that violence in Kordofan is escalating, causing large-scale displacement and civilian suffering.
