In the face of mounting attacks, UN humanitarians answered an urgent distress call from the Gaza Civil Defense on Monday in the Tufah neighborhood of Gaza City. Teams sprang into action to coordinate rescue efforts, saving dozens of lives. 🚑
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that medical teams worked alongside Civil Defense to evacuate injured people, although details of the call remain scarce. The World Health Organization added that they led the medical evacuation of 18 patients and 54 companions for treatment abroad.
Yet, more than 16,500 patients in Gaza still need life-saving care that cannot be provided locally. With winter around the corner, humanitarian partners are ramping up assistance:
- Distributing blankets, clothes, shoes, and towels to children 🧣👟
- Preparing shelter kits and heating supplies as temperatures drop ❄️
OCHA urged authorities to open all available crossings and corridors so patients can reach the West Bank for treatment and to allow international emergency medical teams unhindered access to Gaza.
Meanwhile, in the West Bank, OCHA warned about recent operations by Israeli forces in the governorates of Tubas and Jenin. Reports indicate displacement, damaged water networks, and closed commercial buildings:
- Nearly two dozen Palestinian families displaced after homes were used as military observation posts 🏠➡️🚧
- Water network destruction leading to shortages
As tensions persist, humanitarian actors emphasize the need for safe corridors and uninterrupted aid to protect vulnerable communities across the region.
