Colombia Pushes Back After Trump’s Military Threats Over Drug Trafficking

Big news from Bogotá! Colombia's Foreign Ministry fired back after U.S. President Donald Trump suggested military action could be used against nations trafficking drugs to the U.S. 🚨

On December 2, 2025, at the White House, President Trump warned that any country involved in illegal drug shipments could be attacked, pointing to cocaine from Colombia.

That same day, Colombia's Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern over these comments. The ministry sharply rejected any external threats to Colombia's dignity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty 🌎✊.

Colombia reaffirmed its commitment to fighting drug trafficking with a comprehensive, balanced, multidisciplinary, and evidence-based strategy – one that respects human rights and fundamental freedoms. The statement stressed that controlling drugs is a shared responsibility.

Colombia also called on its neighbors in Latin America and the Caribbean to stand united against any external intervention that could undermine the country's sovereignty.

Since early September, the U.S. has carried out at least 21 known strikes on suspected drug vessels in the Caribbean and East Pacific – including ships linked to Colombia – resulting in over 83 fatalities.

As this diplomatic standoff unfolds, Colombia insists on cooperation, solidarity, and a rights-based approach to address drug trafficking while safeguarding its sovereignty.
