UN Chief Pushes for Irreversible Two-State Progress After Gaza Ceasefire

Yesterday, on November 29, 2025, the world paused to observe the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. In a powerful message, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for irreversible progress toward a two-state solution, highlighting the horrors witnessed over the past two years in Gaza and the glimmer of hope sparked by the recent ceasefire. ✌️🌍

"In so many ways, this tragedy has tested the norms and laws that have guided the international community for generations," Guterres said. He reminded us that tens of thousands of civilians have lost their lives, and that hunger, disease, and trauma are still rampant across Gaza.

The UN chief stressed that the killing of civilians, forced displacement, and obstruction of humanitarian aid "should never be acceptable under any circumstances." With a newfound pause in the fighting, he urged all parties to respect the ceasefire fully and work in good faith to restore and uphold international law.

Guterres also emphasized the urgent need to allow lifesaving aid to flow into Gaza at scale and to continue supporting UNRWA, the UN relief agency for Palestinians. Most importantly, he repeated his call for "an end to the unlawful occupation of the Palestinian Territory," paving the way for Israel and Palestine to live side by side in peace and security within secure and recognized borders based on the pre-1967 lines, with Jerusalem as the capital of both states.

As we reflect on the 78th anniversary of the 1947 partition resolution, Guterres reminded us to stand in solidarity with the rights to dignity, justice, and self-determination. His message was clear: the path to peace is possible if we all commit to building a future where two states can thrive together.
