UN Delivers 24,000 Tonnes of Aid to Gaza Since Ceasefire

Since the ceasefire on October 10, the UN and its humanitarian partners have collected over 24,000 metric tonnes of aid through Gaza Strip crossings. This includes food, medicine, nutritional supplements and shelter materials, all reaching more people in need thanks to resumed community and household distributions. 🙌

One of the biggest wins? A sharp drop in looting and interception. Between October 10 and 28 just 5% of supplies were intercepted, compared with about 80% in the months before. That means relief is getting to where it matters most. 🤝

However, challenges remain. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is calling for all crossing points to stay open and for more agencies to be authorized to bring in supplies. Meanwhile, reported airstrikes pose risks to civilians and aid workers, and the Israeli military is reminded to spare noncombatants in all operations.

The World Health Organization has delivered over 840 pallets of life-saving medical supplies into Gaza, from insulin and essential medicines to cholera and surgical kits. Yet Gaza's health system is under severe strain: more than 1,700 health workers have been killed since the war began. 🏥

On the education front, aid partners are scaling up efforts to restore learning for over 630,000 school-aged children who have missed more than two years of schooling. So far, more than 90 classrooms have been rehabilitated in Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis, with thousands more still in need of repair. 📚

Every ton of aid counts in the race to rebuild lives, and the UN's latest figures show real progress as well as the road ahead. Stay tuned for more updates on Gaza's recovery journey. 🔍✨
