Have you ever wondered how a place at over 4,000 meters above sea level becomes a hub for global ideas? On Wednesday, Nyingchi City in the Xizang Autonomous Region hosted the 2025 Forum on the Development of Xizang, China, bringing together over 400 participants from 44 countries and regions.
Organized by the regional government, this one-day forum carried the theme "Discovering a beautiful Xizang and writing a new chapter on the plateau." It covered:

- Image-building and development strategies 📈
- Practical pathways for sustainable growth 🌱
Mo Gaoyi, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and director of the State Council Information Office, kicked off the event by noting that Xizang’s modernization aligns with the 15th Five-Year Plan for national development. He emphasized the importance of sharing governance experiences, boosting residents’ well-being, and telling the human rights story of Xizang.
Meanwhile, Shahbaz Khan, director and representative to the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, spoke on behalf of the UN secretary-general. "Xizang’s story is one of transformation," he said. "Modern infrastructure now links remote valleys and communities, expanding access to services, education, and markets."
Since its debut in 2007, this forum has served as a vital window for the international community to understand and observe Xizang’s progress. This year marked its eighth edition, featuring four dedicated sub-forums on:
- International communication
- Sustainable industries
- Youth engagement
- Environmental protection 🌿
Before diving into the main sessions, guests toured a high-altitude pasture in Lunang Township, a local village, and a wetland park in Nyingchi—witnessing firsthand the region’s blend of tradition and innovation.
As Xizang stands at a new historical starting point, this global dialogue highlights its journey toward sustainable modernization and cultural exchange.
