Hamas in Cairo for Gaza security talks

Hey amigos! 🛬 A key Hamas delegation touched down in Cairo on Thursday, Egyptian sources told China's Xinhua News Agency on condition of anonymity. They are diving into talks with Egyptian officials about how to keep Gaza safe after the two-year war and what a new ceasefire really looks like. 🤝

The main topics? Deploying around 1,000 Palestinian security personnel trained in Egypt and Jordan to patrol Gaza under Palestinian Authority supervision. The idea is to restore order, bring stability, and let the PA take the lead. 🚧✨

Other big points on the table include Hamas stepping back from Gaza's security roles and handing over its weapons as part of a US-backed peace plan. Plus, Israel has agreed to reopen the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing this Sunday under EU monitoring and with a PA team on site, so patients, travelers and the wounded can move both ways. 🌐🇪🇺

On top of that, Cairo is planning a broader Palestinian meeting, inviting top delegations from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad to map out a joint administrative body for Gaza. Talk about a serious squad effort! 💬✍️

This all builds on the ceasefire that went into effect last Friday, brokered by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and the United States. Since the war began on October 7, 2023, Gaza's health authorities report nearly 68,000 Palestinians killed and over 170,000 wounded. And even after the truce, some clashes have continued—23 people killed and 122 injured since October 11. 😔
