South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba met on Tuesday in Busan, South Korea’s vibrant port city, marking the completion of “shuttle diplomacy.” 🤝 They first swapped seats: Ishiba visited Busan about a month after Lee’s trip to Tokyo.
At a press briefing, spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said both leaders dived deep into boosting cooperation on everything from trade and technology to regional and global challenges. Their goal? Turning fresh talks into real results and creating a “virtuous cycle” of progress.
One highlight: launching a new consultative body to tackle shared social issues and restarting the science and technology cooperation committee. They also reviewed recent meetings on defense, economic security and finance, showing a full-court press on collaboration.
President Lee stressed their guiding principle: “moving toward the future while squarely facing the past.” In other words, acknowledging history to build trust and unlock even more wins together.
This Busan summit sets the stage for stronger Korea-Japan relations—proof that dialogue (and a little shuttle diplomacy) can keep things moving forward! 🚀
