Iran FM: IAEA Deal Invalid if UN Sanctions Snap Back

During his arrival at the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, Iran's foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, issued a stark warning: Tehran's recent deal with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) could become invalid if the UN reimposes sanctions through the so-called "snapback" mechanism. 😲

Araghchi criticized France, Britain, and Germany—the E3—for triggering this process at the UN Security Council and called it "destructive." He added that Iran would take countermeasures and "once again see the unfolding of a new situation with the agency." 🌐

The minister stressed that diplomacy remains the only path forward: "The language of respect and dignity works; pressure and threats don’t." He also noted that the current stalemate traces back to the U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal and its reimposition of sanctions in 2018. 🤝

The snapback mechanism allows UN sanctions to return within 30 days if Iran is judged in breach. Last month, the E3 triggered this clause, and the Security Council failed to extend sanctions relief—meaning measures could snap back later this month. ⏳

In response, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council announced its cooperation with the IAEA would be "effectively" suspended once the snapback goes into effect. 🚨

Now all eyes are on the upcoming New York meetings: will parties choose cooperation or confrontation? For young global citizens, this unfolding drama shows how high-stakes diplomacy impacts our world every day. Stay tuned! 🎥✨
