Gaza City – once the last refuge for families in the northern Gaza Strip – is now what UNICEF calls "a city of fear, flight and funerals." 🚨
Speaking via video from Gaza, Tess Ingram, UNICEF communication manager for the Middle East and North Africa Regional Office, painted a stark picture: almost 1 million people remain trapped in a place where childhood is on the line.
"In nine days, I met families who fled twice over – arriving with nothing but the clothes on their backs. I saw children separated from parents, and mothers heartbroken by children lost to starvation," Ingram shared. 🕊️
Out of 92 nutrition centers supported by UNICEF, only 44 are still open. Thousands of malnourished kids have lost more than half of the lifelines that could save their lives.
"Our team wants to help every child, but we need more funding and safer access on the ground," Ingram said. She urged all parties to protect civilians, let aid in, and restore a ceasefire to prevent an unthinkable tragedy.
As Israeli forces advance through the suburbs and control 40% of the city, Gaza health authorities report at least 53 deaths from ongoing fire. The clock is ticking for families desperate to survive.
For many young people watching, this isn't just a headline – it's a call to care, share and raise our voices for the innocent caught in the crossfire. 🤝
