Thailand Gears Up for New PM Vote After Dissolution Bid Rejected

Thai politics is in full-on drama mode, and you won’t need Netflix to keep up 🎬🇹🇭.

After a failed attempt by the ruling Pheu Thai party to dissolve parliament, royal officials stepped in and rejected the bid, clearing the stage for a high-stakes vote on a new prime minister.

The power vacuum opened when the Constitutional Court sacked former PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra on August 29 over an ethics breach. Since then, the country has been waiting for someone to fill the top job.

An opposition coalition is rallying behind conservative construction magnate Anutin Charnvirakul, with MPs set to cast their ballots on Friday at 10:00 am. 🤔 Who will come out on top?

Caretaker premier Phumtham Wechayachai said the Office of the Privy Council told him it was "inappropriate" to present a draft Royal Decree for dissolution, citing disputed legal issues over his caretaker powers.

With the path cleared, Thailand’s lawmakers will decide who leads next. Will it be a fresh face or another familiar name in Thai politics? Stay tuned!
