Global Outcry as Israel Intensifies Gaza City Bombardment

In recent days, Israel has ramped up airstrikes on Gaza City, the enclave’s largest urban center, sparking global concern and protests. With international calls to halt the offensive growing louder, the ground campaign risks displacing nearly one million Palestinians sheltering there. 😢

According to Gaza’s health ministry, at least 16 Palestinians were killed on Thursday alone, bringing the 24-hour death toll to 71. Many residents in eastern suburbs like Shuja’iyya, Zeitoun, and Sabra say they’re fleeing towards the coast under constant shelling.

Humanitarian teams warn of dire consequences. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs cautioned that seizing Gaza City would be “beyond catastrophic,” and UN Secretary-General António Guterres called it a “new and dangerous phase.” He stressed that further displacement could push families into even deeper peril.

World Food Program Executive Director Cindy McCain urged faster approvals to move aid into Gaza and ensure safe corridors for both civilians and relief workers. 🚑

Meanwhile, European nations including the Netherlands, Sweden, and Slovenia have urged the EU to step up pressure on Israel. In a joint letter, ministers warned the bloc risks losing global influence if it does not demand compliance with international law.

As of now, Israel has not publicly responded to Hamas’ proposed ceasefire, which would allow the return of some hostages. Israeli officials have insisted that any deal must secure the release of all hostages and the surrender of Hamas.

The situation remains tense, with humanitarian groups around the world calling for an immediate halt to the violence and a focus on protecting civilians. 🌍
