Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this Wednesday that senior envoys from his administration will meet representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump’s team in New York on Friday, as diplomatic efforts to end the conflict with Russia intensify.
After stops in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland 🌍, the Ukrainian delegation is riding a wave of momentum into this weekend. Chief of staff Andriy Yermak and former defense minister Rustem Umerov have led negotiations in the Middle East and Europe, setting the stage for talks in the Big Apple 🤝.
On the same day, Zelenskyy appointed Olha Stefanishyna as Ukraine’s new ambassador to the United States, tasking her with reinvigorating the embassy’s work in Washington 🇺🇸.
Key talking points include weapons support and drone supplies. Zelenskyy highlighted that fully implementing the agreements reached in Washington is vital, emphasizing that Ukraine’s long-term security hinges on strong ties with the United States.
This diplomatic push follows a flurry of high-profile meetings: a summit between Trump and Putin in Alaska, and a Washington roundtable with European allies 🔥. President Trump has also proposed a direct meeting between Kremlin and Kyiv leaders, though Ukraine insists any peace deal must include solid Western security guarantees 🛡️.
Meanwhile, Germany is stepping up in support of Kyiv. Rheinmetall inaugurated Europe’s largest ammunition plant in Lower Saxony, aiming to boost 155mm shell production from 25,000 rounds this year to 350,000 by 2027. The plant will supply the German armed forces, NATO partners and Ukraine.
At the opening ceremony, Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte celebrated the milestone 🎉. Earlier this month, Berlin pledged €9 billion in aid to Ukraine and announced two additional Patriot air-defense systems on top of three already delivered.
