Gaza Ceasefire Talks Stall Amid Deepening Crisis

The latest round of ceasefire talks in Doha has taken an unexpected twist, as both Israel and the United States pulled their negotiating teams out of discussions. Claiming a lack of progress and accusing Hamas of insincerity, this move comes at a time when the humanitarian situation in Gaza is deteriorating quickly. 😔

U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, labeled Hamas's response to a 60-day ceasefire proposal as "selfish." He explained that the U.S. team is now returning home to reassess its strategy and explore alternative options for reaching a truce and securing the release of Israeli hostages.

Interestingly, Israel's state-owned Kan TV News cited sources who noted that "the talks did not collapse." Instead, they described the move as coordinated among all parties, highlighting that the momentum remains positive as further consultations are planned.

Hamas expressed surprise over Witkoff's remarks while affirming its keenness to continue negotiations. The group is currently demanding the release of 200 militants and 2,000 civilians detained since the conflict erupted on October 7, 2023—figures that far exceed the mediator's proposal.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsens. Gaza-based health authorities report that the ongoing military campaign has resulted in over 59,210 Palestinian deaths and more than 143,040 injuries, with recent fatalities due to starvation and malnutrition further adding to the distressing toll.
