Fierce Border Fire Exchange Sparks Tensions

A dramatic clash lit up the disputed border area between Cambodia and Thailand on Thursday, as both sides accused each other of firing first near ancient temples.

Cambodia's Defense Ministry stated that an unprovoked incursion by Thai troops led to a self-defense response. Former Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen urged calm and trust in the Cambodian armed forces, noting that two provinces came under shelling. Meanwhile, the Thai military claimed that Cambodian troops opened fire near the contested Ta Moan Thom temple after deploying a surveillance drone. 😮

The confrontation has taken a diplomatic toll. Thailand recalled its ambassador and announced plans to expel Cambodia's envoy in Bangkok, following a recent incident in which a Thai soldier lost a limb to a landmine. In response, Cambodia downgraded its diplomatic ties to the lowest level and recalled all its diplomatic staff from Bangkok.

This latest episode adds fuel to a long-running border dispute, leaving both nations under intense scrutiny as the situation remains delicate and in need of careful resolution, in line with international law. Stay tuned for more updates on this unfolding story! 🔥
