Tragic Fire at Fall River Assisted Living Claims 9 Lives

A heartbreaking scene unfolded on Sunday night in Fall River, Massachusetts, when a devastating fire erupted at the Gabriel House Assisted Living Facility. The incident, which began around 9:30 p.m., has left the community in shock and mourning.

The facility, home to about 70 residents who enjoy independent living with staff assistance, faced a perilous situation as approximately 50 firefighters rushed to save lives. In the chaos, many residents needed urgent rescue, with witnesses reporting harrowing scenes of some individuals clinging to windows. Sadly, at least nine people lost their lives, and more than 30 others were injured, with one person remaining in critical condition.

Fall River Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon described the event as an "unfathomable tragedy" for both the families affected and the wider community. Local authorities have set up a temporary shelter to support surviving residents while a thorough investigation is underway. Additionally, five firefighters sustained injuries, though none are life-threatening.
