Indonesian President Orders Urgent Ferry Rescue

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has called for an immediate rescue operation after the inter-island ferry Tunu Pratama Jaya sank in the Bali Strait due to severe weather. The dramatic event has sparked a swift response by the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).

The ferry, carrying 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and a dozen vehicles, was journeying from Ketapang Port on Java to Gilimanuk Port in Bali when the incident unfolded Wednesday night. Rescue teams from Bali and East Java have joined forces near the maritime boundary to save lives.

I Nyoman Sidakarya, head of the Bali Search and Rescue Office, confirmed the joint efforts have been mobilized, while Teddy Indra Wijaya, cabinet secretary, emphasized that the rescue of the victims remains the top priority.
