Tata Group Offers $116K Compensation in Air India Crash

In a heartfelt move amid a tragic incident, Tata Group, owner of Air India, has pledged to offer 10 million rupees (roughly $116K) in compensation per victim's family. The conglomerate also announced that it will cover medical expenses for those injured and support the rebuilding of the B J Medical hostel affected by the crash.

The London-bound Air India Flight 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner carrying 242 on board, crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Gujarat. Videos captured a dramatic sequence as the aircraft struggled to gain altitude before being engulfed in a massive ball of fire. On-site photos showed scattered plates and utensils in the hostel canteen, hinting that medical students were in the middle of lunch when the tragedy struck. 😢

Chairman N Chandrasekaran expressed deep anguish over the event, stating that words fall short in expressing the sorrow they feel for the affected families. Air India's CEO, Campbell Wilson, also voiced profound sadness and reiterated that the company’s immediate focus is on the welfare of passengers, crew members, and their families during this challenging time.

In addition to the compensation, Air India has arranged special relief flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Ahmedabad to promptly assist the next of kin. While investigations continue and overall figures are still being clarified, reports from the FAIMA Doctors Association indicate one confirmed fatality, at least seven people missing, and 50 injured at the B J Medical College premises.

This devastating event has left communities in shock and sorrow, yet initiatives like Tata Group’s compassionate response remind us of the power of solidarity in the face of adversity. Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by this calamity. 💙🙏
