Activist Aid Ship Nears Gaza After Reaching Egyptian Coast

The Madleen, an aid ship from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, has reached the Egyptian coast with 12 committed activists onboard, including Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg. Their mission? Delivering vital relief supplies to break the blockade on Gaza. 🚢

Having set sail from Sicily last week, the ship now navigates near Gaza, where its cargo of humanitarian relief aims to ease the growing crisis. German human rights activist Yasemin Acar confirmed the progress, saying, "We are now sailing off the Egyptian coast," and assuring that all is well.

Organizers maintain close contact with international legal and human rights bodies to secure the vessel’s safe passage, warning that any interception would constitute a clear violation of international humanitarian law. European parliament member Rima Hassan, present on board, has called on governments to guarantee safe passage for this courageous mission.

This journey echoes past struggles, such as the tragic events of the 2010 Mavi Marmara raid and more recent challenges like the drone attack on a similar flotilla last May. Yet, despite the risks, the activists remain undeterred in their quest for humanitarian aid.

In a display of quick-thinking solidarity, the Madleen altered course near the Greek island of Crete after receiving a distress signal from a sinking migrant boat. The crew rescued four Sudanese migrants, later transferring them to an EU Frontex vessel—a reminder that compassion is at the heart of their mission. ✨

As the vessel moves closer to Gaza, its journey serves as a beacon of hope and resilience, inspiring a new generation to stand up for humanity in challenging times.
