Trump Signs Bold Travel Ban on 12 Countries

On Wednesday evening, U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled a new travel ban affecting nationals from 12 countries, citing national security risks. This proclamation, issued by the White House, aims to strengthen vetting procedures to counter potential threats.

The full entry ban targets Afghanistan, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. In addition, there will be partial restrictions for nationals from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.

According to the official release, the measure is set to take effect at 12:01 a.m. next Monday and is designed to enforce immigration laws and advance national security and counterterrorism goals. Exceptions apply for lawful permanent residents, current visa holders, and individuals whose entry serves U.S. interests.

Interestingly, this move echoes a similar policy first introduced during Trump’s earlier term—one that underwent several legal rounds before being upheld by the Supreme Court in 2018. While former President Biden reversed previous travel bans in 2021, this announcement marks a renewed focus on tightening travel protocols. 🚀
