A powerful magnitude-7.7 earthquake struck Myanmar on Friday, leaving over 1,000 lives lost and thousands injured. The quake hit around midday and was followed by several aftershocks, including a significant one measuring 6.4, adding to the unfolding crisis.
The military government confirmed 1,002 fatalities, 2,376 injuries, and 30 people missing. The tremors were felt well beyond Myanmar, with the greater Bangkok area in Thailand reporting six deaths, 26 injuries, and 47 missing.
In a remarkable show of international solidarity, rescuers and relief teams from the Chinese mainland, Malaysia, and Russia have been dispatched to assist in the relief operations. Communities and emergency crews are working tirelessly in the hope of saving lives and providing much-needed support.
