Trump Halts US Tariffs on Canada & Mexico for a Month 🇺🇸🇨🇦🇲🇽

In a significant development, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the tariffs imposed on Canada and Mexico will be paused for a 30-day period. This pause aims to explore the possibility of a final economic agreement with Canada, easing previously raised trade tensions.

Trump stated on Truth Social, \"Canada has agreed to ensure we have a secure Northern Border and to finally end the deadly scourge of drugs like fentanyl.\" 🇺🇸🤝🇨🇦

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shared the news on X, saying, \"Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together.\" Trudeau also outlined Canada's comprehensive $1.3 billion border plan, which includes new helicopters, advanced technology, and increased personnel to combat the flow of fentanyl. 🛡️✈️

Additionally, Canada has committed to appointing a fentanyl czar, designating cartels as terrorists, enhancing 24/7 border surveillance, and launching a Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force to fight organized crime. Trudeau emphasized the backing of this initiative with a new intelligence directive and a $200 million investment.

Trump expressed pleasure with the progress, noting that the tariff pause facilitates further negotiations. This decision follows Trump’s executive orders last Saturday, which introduced a 25% tariff on Canadian imports and a 10% increase on imports from China, leading to immediate retaliatory tariffs from Canada on $107 billion of U.S. goods.

Earlier in the day, Trump also confirmed a friendly conversation with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, resulting in an agreement to pause anticipated tariffs for one month as negotiations continue.
