Ship Seized Over Baltic Sea Cable Damage: What’s Happening? 🚢🌊

Sweden has seized a ship suspected of damaging an underwater fiber optic cable in the Baltic Sea, causing internet disruptions between Latvia and the island of Gotland. 🕵️‍♂️🔌

The Swedish Prosecution Authority announced late Sunday that a vessel has been confiscated as part of a criminal investigation into alleged serious sabotage. While they didn't spill the tea on the ship's name or nationality, Swedish newspaper Expressen reports it's the oil tanker Vezhen, registered in Malta and sailing from Russia. 🛳️🌍

The cable's owner, the Latvian State Radio and Television Center (LVRTC), detected early Sunday that their underwater fiber optic connection was acting up. They suspect the cable, which lies over 50 meters deep within the Swedish economic zone, was seriously damaged by some external force. 🌊🔎

Don't worry, internet addicts! LVRTC promises to keep the data flowing through other routes while repairs get underway. But until then, the mystery deepens… 🤔💻

Latvia's Prime Minister Evika Silina isn't taking this lightly. She called an emergency meeting and announced that Latvia is teaming up with NATO and Baltic Sea countries to get to the bottom of this. The Latvian navy even sent a patrol boat to check out the scene and has contacted NATO allies about the incident. 🛥️🛡️

Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson is also on the case. He chatted with Silina and promised that Sweden would provide \"important resources for the investigation.\" 🤝🔍

This isn't the first time undersea cables in the Baltic Sea have had \"accidents.\" 👀 Could there be more to the story? Stay tuned! 📰⚡
