🚨 Chaos in New Orleans: Driver Hits Crowd and Shoots Officers

🚨 New Orleans Under Attack: Tragedy Strikes Bourbon Street

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, chaos erupted on Bourbon Street, New Orleans. A driver in a pickup truck sped through the bustling street at around 3:15 a.m., aiming to \"run over as many people as he possibly could,\" according to Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick. The horrifying incident has left at least 10 people dead and over 35 injured.

The suspect didn't stop there. From his vehicle, he opened fire, wounding two police officers who are now in stable condition. \"He displayed very intentional behavior,\" Kirkpatrick said during a press briefing. The motive behind his actions remains a mystery as authorities continue their investigation.

Adding to the confusion, an improvised explosive device (IED) was reportedly discovered at the scene. A law enforcement robot was seen examining the underside of the truck, as broadcasted by local TV station WDSU. The attacker has since been reported dead.

Was It a Terrorist Attack? 🤔

Mayor LaToya Cantrell initially labeled the incident a \"terrorist attack,\" urging residents and tourists alike to avoid the area. However, mixed messages followed. Alethea Duncan, assistant special agent in charge of the FBI's New Orleans field office, stated that it was \"not a terrorist attack.\" Later, the FBI issued a statement confirming they are investigating the incident \"as an act of terrorism.\"

With uncertainty hanging in the air, the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event. President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation, according to a statement from the White House.

New Orleans' Troubled Past 🕰️

This isn't the first time the city has faced such heartbreak. In November 2024, two separate shootings during a parade resulted in two deaths and injured ten others. Back in February 2017, a highly intoxicated driver plowed into Mardi Gras spectators, injuring over 20 people.

As New Orleans mourns once again, the resilience of its people shines through. Our hearts go out to all affected by this tragedy. Stay tuned for updates as we learn more about this developing story. 💔
