South Korea’s Ruling Party Chief Vows to Block Impeachment of President Yoon

🚨 In a dramatic turn of events, Han Dong-hoon, chief of South Korea's ruling People Power Party, pledged on Thursday to block the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol initiated by opposition parties.

Speaking at the party's supreme council meeting, Han emphasized his commitment to preventing the motion from passing in parliament. He believes blocking the impeachment is essential to protect the people and supporters from the fallout of what he describes as an unprepared political move.

The parliament is slated to vote on the impeachment motion this Saturday, according to Yonhap news agency. The nation watches closely as tensions rise between the ruling party and the opposition.

Han was adamant that he does not defend the president's recent declaration of martial law, which he termed unconstitutional. He stressed that President Yoon and others responsible for causing public anxiety and harm through the martial law order must be held accountable.

Reflecting on his meeting with President Yoon the previous day, Han expressed his disapproval of the president's attempt to shift blame onto the main opposition Democratic Party. Han stated he finds it difficult to sympathize with the president's perspective.

\"The tyranny of the Democratic Party cannot justify an unconstitutional and illegal martial law order,\" Han declared, urging President Yoon once again to defect from the conservative party.

On Wednesday, the Democratic Party, along with five minor parties, submitted the impeachment motion against President Yoon. This came after the president declared an emergency martial law on Tuesday night, only to repeal it early Wednesday following a parliamentary vote against it.
