🇷🇸 Serbia Declares National Mourning After Tragic Roof Collapse in Novi Sad

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Serbia unites to mourn the loss of lives in a devastating incident at the Novi Sad railway station.

The Serbian government has declared November 2 as a national day of mourning to honor the victims of the catastrophic roof collapse at the Novi Sad railway station that occurred on Friday.

The tragedy struck when the concrete platform roof, a 60-year-old structure, suddenly collapsed, claiming the lives of at least 14 people, as reported by the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad. Emergency responders worked tirelessly, rescuing three individuals, including two women who bravely kept vocal contact with rescuers while trapped under the rubble.

President Aleksandar Vucic addressed the nation on Friday evening, urging unity and solidarity in these trying times. \"We all must find the strength to unite, help the families, and do everything in our power to minimize the damage,\" he emphasized, expressing deep gratitude to the rescuers and workers dedicated to the rescue efforts.

Prime Minister Milos Vucevic reflected on the incident, describing it as \"one of the darkest days in the city's history and a tragedy for all of Serbia.\" He extended heartfelt condolences to the families affected and acknowledged the swift response of over 80 emergency workers from multiple cities who arrived at the scene within minutes.

Despite the age of the structure, authorities are committed to identifying those responsible for the incident. \"We will find out who is accountable,\" Vucevic assured the public, highlighting the need for accountability.

As the nation grieves, Interior Minister Ivica Dacic announced that a thorough investigation will follow the rescue operations to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time. 💔
