Looks like the road to a China-EU EV agreement is still under construction! 🛣️ Despite some serious headway in talks, China and the European Union haven't yet hit the accelerator on a deal addressing the EU's anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles (EVs). China's commerce ministry dropped the update this Saturday.
Here's the tea: Since September 20, technical teams from both sides have been in an intense negotiation marathon—eight rounds deep! 🏃♀️🏃♂️ But even with all that hustle in Brussels, major bumps remain on the path to a mutual understanding.
China's totally up for keeping the convo going. They've officially invited the EU to send a technical team over for some face-to-face chats. The commerce ministry spokesperson stressed that they're keen to find a solution through dialogue and haven't chilled on their sincerity one bit.
Back on September 19, China's Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and EU Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis had a sit-down. They agreed to push negotiations on a price commitment agreement and were all-in on finding a solution everyone could vibe with.
During the latest rounds, China says they've been super considerate of both Chinese and European industry vibes, tossing out practical and constructive ideas to tackle the EU's worries. They've shown max sincerity and flexibility. But, as the spokesperson put it, it's a bummer that the EU hasn't been as responsive to the core concerns from both sides.
Word on the street is that the EU's been chatting separately with some companies about price commitments. China's commerce ministry isn't thrilled about that, cautioning that such moves could \"undermine the foundation of the negotiations and mutual trust.\"
Oh, and fun fact: Chinese companies, including those with EU investments in China, have given the green light to the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products to propose a price commitment plan. This plan speaks for the whole industry, and according to China, it's the backbone of the negotiations.
So, will China and the EU bridge the gap and cruise towards a deal? Stay tuned! 🌍🚀
