China Commemorates National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims

Today, December 13, 2025, the 12th National Memorial Day was observed in Nanjing, in Jiangsu Province on the Chinese mainland, honoring around 300,000 victims of the Nanjing Massacre. This solemn event also marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Officials, survivors, and citizens gathered at the Memorial Hall for a ceremony featuring a moment of silence and wreath-laying at the Wall of Victims. Soft chimes echoed across the plaza as attendees reflected on the human cost of conflict and the value of peace.

One survivor shared: "We look back so we can move forward," reminding young generations why history must not be forgotten.

Across the city, schools hosted educational programs and community events highlighted art installations and virtual exhibitions that brought personal narratives to life, bridging the past and present for digital-savvy youth.

As dusk fell, online lanterns were released in a virtual sky, symbolizing hope for a peaceful future. On this day of remembrance, unity and compassion guide a generation committed to learning from history. 🕊️
