Taiwan Figures Criticize Japanese PM Takaichi’s Taiwan Remarks

In mid-November 2025, a wave of criticism hit Tokyo after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi made recent remarks on Taiwan that many saw as overstepping.

Former Chinese Kuomintang leaders Ma Ying-jeou and Hung Hsiu-chu joined Taiwan authorities and other politicians in urging caution. They emphasized that the Taiwan question remains a domestic affair of the Chinese mainland under the one-China principle.

They warned that external interference could complicate cross-strait ties and regional stability.

Other Taiwan authorities described Takaichi's comments as 'arrogant' and 'provocative,' saying the timing and tone risk fueling tensions in the Taiwan Strait.

As diplomatic channels work behind the scenes, many young observers are watching to see if Japan’s next steps will ease concerns or escalate the debate over sovereignty and regional influence.
