🕊️ Fragile Peace: UNIFIL Highlights Tensions as Lebanon-Israel Ceasefire Nears End

The ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, which came into effect on November 27, 2024, is reaching a critical juncture as the initial 60-day period nears its end. The agreement temporarily halted nearly 14 months of intense conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Speaking to CGTN, United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) spokesperson Andrea Tenenti expressed concerns about the fragile situation in southern Lebanon. \"The cessation of hostilities has been a positive step, but the underlying tensions remain,\" Tenenti remarked.

He emphasized the importance of both parties maintaining open channels of communication to prevent a relapse into conflict. \"Peace is more than just the absence of war; it's about building trust and understanding,\" he added.

The youth in the region are hopeful yet cautious. Many are yearning for lasting peace that will allow them to rebuild and move forward. As one local student shared, \"We dream of a future where we can live without fear and focus on our aspirations.\"

With the ceasefire set to expire soon, all eyes are on the involved parties to see if they will extend the agreement or take further steps towards a sustainable peace.

Let's hope this fragile peace turns into a lasting one! ✌️
