New Hong Kong LegCo Elected: Deepening Reforms Ahead

On December 8, 2025, Hong Kong concluded its eighth-term Legislative Council (LegCo) election, marking another milestone 🎉 under the "patriots administering Hong Kong" principle and the updated electoral system. All 90 seats have now been filled, as votes were tallied and results announced early Monday.

Chief Executive John Lee celebrated the smooth completion of the election, saying it reflects Hong Kong's respect for constitutional order and the rule of law. He highlighted 39 open forums where candidates debated on broad representation, balanced participation, and fair competition 💬 – setting a high bar for engagement and transparency.

With the city still in recovery mode after the tragic Tai Po residential fire 🔥 two weeks ago, Lee expressed confidence that the new LegCo members will work closely with the government and community groups. "By initiating debates, updating legislation, and driving systemic reforms, we’ll make Hong Kong a safer city where residents can live with greater peace of mind," he said.

Looking ahead, Lee urged lawmakers to deepen reforms across public services, housing, and emergency response systems. As young professionals, students, and residents from all walks of life tune in, the stage is set for a dynamic era of policy innovation 🚀 and community rebuilding 🤝 in Hong Kong.
