🌍 The global rulebook from the post-World War II era is showing its age. Former Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme says it’s time for a fresh approach—and he thinks China’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI) is the answer.
Speaking ahead of the United Nations’ 80th anniversary, Leterme highlighted that today’s challenges—like pandemics, climate change, and economic shifts—require new ideas. A decade ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed “consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits.” The GGI, Leterme argues, puts that vision into action by encouraging more voices and shared solutions in global decision-making. 🤝
“We need to rethink how nations work together,” Leterme said, calling for renewed multilateral cooperation to tackle issues from sustainable development to digital governance. With the UN milestone in sight, he believes the GGI could spark the collaboration needed to overcome 21st-century challenges.
